RE: ERADICATION OF  CHILD MORTALITY RATE PROJECT PROPOSAL

BWAMBALE J BOSCO is my name a student nurse pursuing  a diploma in nursing  at FINS . In addition great thanks goes to the Director and management Global Nurses Initiative for the lovely and kind support you gave me in completing my certificate in nursing and attaining more skills through sponsoring my project which added success in my career and beneficial to communities I went to.

         

With great need I request the management GNI to consider and support me  continue with the in five new places where people greatly need the information that was offered to other villages ,these villages are, bujabara,bihondo kibate nsuura and kayembe villages of katebwa-s/county  fort portal  kabarole district.

           

According to the s/county records, shows that there is a high rate of child mortality due to these villages being hard to reach and poor standards of living due to poverty and also move long distances to reach health centers for care.On this note I would like to extend my services through health education to these five villages which information is beneficial to them.

         

In addition to high mortality rate these villages have an approximate population of 2,500 of which children have the greatest population. The people of these villages, the majority are peasant farmers who live a hand to mouth kind of life and their financial earnings are low to provide the basic needs to their many children. So through this project these people will be equipped with necessary knowledge on how to reduce child mortality rate through education on;

• ·       Breastfeeding
• ·       Maternal nutrition for better breast milk
• ·       Care in case of HIV and AIDS mothers
• ·       Child immunization and vitamin A supplements
• ·       Feeding the baby during illness and after illness
• ·       Other foods to be given from 6months of age
• ·       Also frequency of feeding the children is important in child growth
• ·       Clean food andwater
• ·       Child spacing
• ·       Sanitation and hygiene

Lack of information on all the above has a great impact on child mortality rate in these villages.

For the need to help our poor communities with these vital information,  I kindly request  the management GNI to support these project continue such that our people do not remain the

 same

Jackline Kezabu - Midsemester Report

Report for; 

Early Pregnancy and HIV / AIDS Prevention

Hello Madam, Thank you for the work that you are doing.

It was on 21^st. Dec 2014 when we went to Lyamabwa sub-parish for a health talk on ways of transmission of HIV/AIDS and prevention of HIV/AIDS. We were welcomed by the parish priest and community members. They appreciated the work that we did and knowledge we equipped them with concerning their health matters through songs.

During the session we met the youth the elderly (‘between’ 35 – 70) and children (between 5-13 years) we taught them about the causes, ways of transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS.

Some community members participated by asking questions and we answered them accordingly, and where by Mr. James Byamukama asked about how can HIV/AIDS be spread through kissing? And one of my colleagues answered by saying, saliva does not transmit HIV, and it is very rare, but that when one partner is having sores with bleeding in the mouth, open-mouth kissing of infected person can lead to an uninfected person  contracting it.

At the end of the session people thanked us and also asked that if we can keep on going and share with them knowledge concerning their health matters and they also said that our outreach as of their great benefit and we also benefited because they learnt what they never knew.

 And this is how we spent thought the day!

Immunization & Nutrition Sensitization to Reduce Infant and Child Mortality

Hello Madam, We appreciate the work that you are doing. Happy New Year!

It was on 21^st Dec, 2014 when we set off to Lyamabwa sub-parish for a health talk on immunization. We were given a warm welcome by the parish priest and the community members. They appreciated the work that we did and the knowledge we shared with them through songs and teaching.

During the session we met the children between 5-13 years, the youth and women of child bearing age and the elderly.

       

We taught them about the importance of immunization, immunizable diseases like polio, measles, pneumonia, cough and outcomes of not immunizing.

Some community members participated by asking questions and we answered them accordingly. The community members had some light on things concerning immunization. But when we taught them all the information about immunization they really appreciated and they requested us to go back and teach them more if we get time.

Mrs Kamuli Jesca asked a question saying that why do children fall sick after immunization? We answered her by explaining some of side effects of drugs given to her baby.

Masika Mirika - Midsemester Report

REPORT FOR THE PROJECT REDUCTION OF MATERNAL DEATH.

I am so grateful that my project was renewed. When I meet people now, I introduce myself as a certificate  midwife and diploma student midwife. This is an important profession in our country as we often have maternal deaths due to preventable ailments and conditions. By furthering my education, I am gaining more experience and knowing myself as an important person in the country because I am now part of the system addressing those health disparities.

Introduction: 

My project was composed of three sessions. The first session was conducted on November 14^th and 15^th in Bukwai. My meeting with the chairperson local council one (LCD) was conducted 14^th Friday, November 2014, with the session day following on 15^th Saturday.

Session 1: Topic of the Day: Antenatal Care and Hospital Delivery

Discussion Points

• ·     What is antenatal care.

• ·      Advantages of antenatal care

• ·      What is done during antenatal care

• ·      How a woman should behave when pregnant

• ·      Why hospital delivery.

• ·      What a woman needs to deliver in the hospital

Session 2: Topic of the Day: Family Planning

The second session was conducted in Njara village 19^th December 2014 mobilisation and meeting the authority 20^th December session.

Discussion Points

• ·      Because mothers have endured poorer lives because of poor family planning

• ·      Planning it took a lot of time and many questions. 

• ·      What we talked about

• ·      What family planning

• ·      Disadvantages of having many children.

• ·      Demonstration use of both male and female condoms

• ·      What is true about the use of condoms and other family planning methods.

Session 3: Topic of the day. How woman can live healthy.

The third session was conducted in Butebe Village. On the 6^th January 2015 mobilization and meeting the authorities occurred and on the 7^th of January the session occurred.

Discussion Points 

•   Disease affecting women reproductive organs.

• ·      UTIs

• ·      Breast and Cervical cancer.

• ·      Demonstrated how to do self-breast examination.

• ·      Going for cervical cancer examination every 3 years without HIV/AIDS and ever year for HIV/AIDS infected women.

PROPOSAL FOR THE ROBERTS COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

PROJECT TITLE: IMMUNIZATION AND NUTRITION SENSITIZATION TO REDUCE INFANT AND CHILD MOTILITY

SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION

My name is Katusabe Harriet 19 years a second year student nurse at Fort Portal International Nursing school (FINS). My ambition as a nurse is to help young children especially infants to fight against high infant and child mortality by focusing my efforts on improving childhood immunization.

SECTION 2: BACKGROUND

i)              Back ground of the writer

As mentioned above my name is Katusabe Harriet 19 years, I am a student nurse second year at Fort Portal International nursing school (FINS). I prefer helping young children. I love reading stories and playing with young children. I like getting involved in community work, treating kids and playing with infants. I come from a poor family with all parents having no job and money to sustain me and the entire family.  I have a big heart of helping but no means to fulfill my desire, I hope and pray that I get this scholarship such that my dream can come true.

ii)           Back ground of the project

Young children in Uganda especially infants are most vulnerable and die from immunizable diseases. It is very painful to produce a baby and face or experience the following problems as a result of barriers to young child clinics (YCC). They include, lack of transport, long distance, lack of guidance on food and disease, due to barriers infants and children have been exposed to disability, malnutrition and death from preventable diseases. The infant and mortality rates in Uganda are very high. I hope this project helps me make an impact on the life of children.

Goals / objectives of the project

• To prevent the eight killer diseases by carrying out immunization sensitization.
• To improve the health of young children through sensitizing their mothers about nutrition.
• To improve the nutrition of young children
• To reduce disability and death in infants and children by promoting immunization.

Proposed intervention

For us to implement this project we shall conduct the following activities.

• We shall sensitize breast feeding mothers and pregnant mothers in villages about the dangers of immunizable diseases and malnutrition.
• Through dance and drama we shall visit villages and hospitals where there are vulnerable mothers and children and sensitizing mothers about immunizable diseases and malnutrition
• We shall also involve the mothers into discussions to find out the barriers to taking their children for immunization and get the way forward.

Expected outcome

After doing the following above mentioned activities we expect the following

• More mothers especially of children bearing age will bring their children for immunization
• The project will help reduce the infant and child mortality of immunizable diseases.
• The project will help to have healthy children in future and reduce suffering among the infants .
• The project will help mothers find solutions to barriers to health through discussion and interaction

Conclusion

I hope and pray that my project will be facilitated so that I can achieve my goal of being a champion in protecting the children. I promise to cause change  and leave a positive impact on the lives of children.

Proposal for Roberts Community Health Scholarship

Project Title; Reduction of Maternal Death

         I hereby request your office to support me in my Diploma in Midwifery. GNI supported  me during my Certificate Level most important GNI funded my project; Reduction of maternal death. This made me gain courage and wisdom that it now helped me to become among the top scorer of the school and the country at large.

The aims why I want to focus in midwifery

•      To supporting and promoting mother craft
•      To prevent death of many mothers due to pregnancy related problems
•      To prevent mothers from having a poor life after child birth
•          To educate husbands to prevent them from leaving children to be with other women.

My future goals are;

•      To aid starting up maternity homes at least in most rural areas.
•      Improving on nutrition among child bearing age women by starting up nutritional centres     for those women.
•      Starting of women groups who will educate rural women and learn to live happily.

         But it has not been easy to achieve my goals because of little education, which does not meet the standards of the country. So I have applied at Fort Portal International Nursing School for a Diploma in Midwifery, to be able to meet my goals in order to aid my country and the world at large.
